Help design a future Victor Harbor foreshore for our people and dynamic coast

The Victor Harbor foreshore between Hindmarsh and Inman Rivers is a stretch of living coast cherished as a valued public place and active natural system.

Like most coastal areas around Australia, our foreshore is at risk of coastal erosion and flooding from projected sea level rise and increasing storm frequency.

Design, engineering and environmental planning are coming together to prepare a Master Plan for the foreshore. It will identify a layout that manages coastal risks whilst providing places for people, nature and the ongoing natural processes that shape our dynamic coastline.

Preparation of the Master Plan is an action from Council’s Coastal Adaptation Strategy and Study and is being funded through a Coastal Hazard Adaptation Grant from the Local Government Association of South Australia.

Coastal engineers and scientists have identified preliminary technically effective options for managing the projected coastal erosion and flooding impacts. Landscape architects have provided input on how these options can consider people and place.

Council has not formed a view on these options and before preparing the draft Master Plan, wants to know what the community thinks, what it values about the foreshore and ideas to improve it. Future decisions will be informed by community views, effectiveness, cost and social and environmental impacts.

The Master Plan area has been divided into sites and preliminary technically effective coastal adaptation options identified for each. The Fact Sheet presents these sites and options along with high-level pros and cons for each option.
