Help design a future Victor Harbor foreshore for our people and dynamic coast

Like most coastal areas around Australia, our much-loved foreshore is at risk of coastal erosion and flooding from projected sea level rise and increasing storm frequency associated with climate change.

To proactively plan for these projected impacts, Council has developed a draft Coastal Adaptation Master Plan for the coastline between the Hindmarsh and Inman Rivers.

The draft Master Plan proposes a series of guiding principles, coastal concept layouts and hard and soft protection infrastructure. These include sea walls incorporating new movement paths, greening and amenity, dune restoration and revegetation, sand nourishment, and in some cases the potential relocation or consolidation of built assets such as buildings and pathways. These actions are proposed to be implemented progressively over the next 75 years.

Preparation of this Master Plan is an action from Council’s Coastal Adaptation Strategy and Study and is being funded through a Coastal Hazard Adaptation Grant from the Local Government Association of South Australia.

Community and stakeholder consultation was undertaken on preliminary options for managing the coastline in February and March 2026. Feedback from this consultation has helped to inform development of the draft Master Plan.
